WORLD OF JAG

  • The World of J. Alma Greer

The J. Alma Greer series unfolds in a version of 1980s Utah where structure and secrecy coexist, and where violence is rarely random.

This is not a world of spectacle.
It is a world of discipline.

Behind winter-lit streets and wide desert horizons, something patient moves. It does not rage. It organizes. It embeds itself within families, belief systems, and hierarchies. It survives because it understands structure.

Standing against it is a man trained to recognize what most cannot see.

  • The Continuance Circle

The Continuance Circle is an esoteric order devoted to containment.

Its members are not sorcerers in the theatrical sense. They are disciplined practitioners of ritual language, bound by doctrine and restraint. They are trained to observe before acting, to calculate before intervening, and to account for every sanctioned use of force.

    The Circle teaches:

    Elemental binding through Latin incantation

    Ritual containment

    Moral reckoning after violence

    The long view of conflict

They do not seek power. They seek balance.

  • Hunger

In this world, hunger is adaptive.

It does not rely on superstition. It studies its environment. It cultivates dependence. It prefers loyalty to fear.

    Direct predation is inefficient.
    Influence is sustainable.

Hunger often thrives within closed systems—communities where hierarchy is clear and silence is practiced. It may live among the ordinary for years before revealing its nature.

    It is not mythic excess.
    It is calculated persistence.

  • Revenants

Revenants exist in the space between life and death.

They remember who they were. They speak. They move with intention. Yet something essential has been severed.

Sustained through unnatural means, a revenant can be shaped into obedience. It does not lead. It follows. It endures as long as it is maintained.

Unlike hunger, which evolves, a revenant decays.

    It is not immortal.
    It is prolonged.

  • Language & Doctrine

Language is not aesthetic in the JAG universe—it is structural.

Latin is used by the Continuance Circle. It binds, anchors, and restrains. Its cadence reflects order.

Virellan, a predatory derivative tongue, fractures and disrupts. It is designed to break containment and amplify force.

    Words do not shimmer.
    They alter conditions.

  • The Landscape

Utah is not backdrop. It is pressure.

    Snow-muted city streets

    Agricultural properties set miles apart

High desert towns under vast, indifferent skies

Highways that stretch longer than memory

    Distance creates isolation.
    Isolation creates opportunity.

The war against hunger moves from downtown Salt Lake City into the open desert, where oversight thins and loyalty tightens.

  • Era: The 1980s

The series unfolds before digital permanence.

    Investigations depend on:

    Physical evidence

    Paper records

    Interviews conducted face-to-face

    Memory

    Disappearance was easier then.
    So was secrecy.
